December 19th - BMW Releases Stunning M6

With the completely new, redesigned M5 due to hit showrooms in a few months, BMW has finally released specifications and photos of its new M6 sports coupe. From the outside, the M6 looks very similar to the 645Ci model, but uses a carbon fibre roof to turn the roadster into a sleek, rigid coupe. Power comes from the same 5 litre V10 engine that powers the M5 and produces 507 horsepower in both applications. Power is sent to the rear wheels via a 7-speed sequential manual gearbox.

The M6 will undoubtably be the ultimate coupe when it debuts in late 2005 just as the new M5 model has already been touted the ultimate sports sedan. The combination of stunning luxury, performance and refinement come together to marvelous package. Although the M6 will be an expensive and exclusive machine when it is released to the public (the base price will be over $100,000 USD), there is no doubt it will become the benchmark for the sport-luxury segment of the North American and European car markets.

December 16th - Volkswagen Announces Plans for New Golf GTI

The Volkswagen Golf has always been a sporty subcompact popular with the younger generation. The 2005 Golf GTI is a very exciting little hatchback that will continue to please buyers looking for a quick, versitile ride for around $24,000. Powered by a high revving 2 litre 4-cylander turbocharged engine that makes 200 horses, the GTI is quick off the line as it takes just 7 seconds to accelerate from 0-60 mph. A 6-speed manual gearbox is the only transmission offered with the GTI model. Furthermore, the handling is above average for the price level and is aided by a curb weight of under 3000 lbs and high performance tires.

The Golf GTI has a powerful presence with an exterior design which is typical GTI: black radiator grille with red frame, striking front and roof edges and rear spoiler with twin tail pipes, distinctive 17 inch alloy wheels and red calipers on the four large disc brakes. The GTI rides 1 inch lower than the stock Golf thanks to an upgraded suspension. The interior is surprisingly well equiped and there are also plenty of high tech safety features located throughout the cockpit such as 6 airbags and active front head restraints. The 2005 GTI looks to be a promising pocket rocket which should be available in American Volkswagen dealerships by the Summer of 2005.
