2006 BMW M5

As much as I am not a fan of the new BMW 5 Series' exterior design, one can easily fall in love with the new M5. A 5.0 litre V10 engine powers this RWD sedan and provides it with 507 horsepower. If you feel that 507 horses is too many (ya, right) for city driving, there is a button in the cabin which limits engine output to only 400 ponies.

Everything else about this Bimmer is also very special. The transmission used by BMW is a 7-speed SMG (sequential) gearbox, which helps the M5 in the acceleration department. Runs from 0-60 mph take only 4.5 seconds and the trip down the 1/4 mile track takes a mere 13. The 2005 M5's top speed is electronically limited at 155 mph.

The M5 has long been known for handling that matches its performance, carefully blended with impressive ride comfort. More than just a "tuned" 5 Series suspension, the aluminum suspension on the M5 has been engineered to match its performance. The suspension is mated to 19-inch wheels with performance tires.

There is no doubt that the new BMW M5 has regained the title as the world's best performing sedan. With a price of $90,000 USD, the M5 is not cheap, however its blend of performance and luxury is unmatched in today's automotive industry.

2005 Saleen S7

With 575 horsepower and 570 lb-ft of torque, a lack of power will never be an issue with the Saleen S7. In fact, with a 0-60 time of just 2.9 seconds and a 1/4 mile time of only 10.8, neither will acceleration. The S7 was slightly upgraded from the older model released in 2002 to this stunning 2005 version.

A 7 litre naturally aspirated engine is at the heart of the S7. A 6-speed manual gearbox allows for smooth, yet precise shifts and transfers all of the power to the rear wheels. Handling numbers for the S7 are also impressive: it reaches 1.02 g at the skidpad, 72 mph through the slalom and has enough downforce to be able to drive upside down at a 160 mph and stay glued to the pavement. The Saleen has a top speed of nearly 210 mph.

The exterior appearance is unique and simply stunning; the interior is also fantastic, but is very difficult to climb into. In fact, Saleen makes every buyer go through a week long S7-familiarization period at their headquarters in Irving, California to ensure they can control the S7 on the road as well as being able to squeeze into the cockpit.

The Saleen S7 is a supercar in every true sense of the word and although it costs $430,000 USD, it is the dream vehicle of virtually every car enthusiast I know. During track runs and trips to the supermarket alike, the S7 performs with grace and gives the driver an experience of a lifetime.
